I am honored to be a part of the CASA of Cook County Marathon Team. As a supporter of both CASA of Los Angeles and California CASA, I have had the privilege of learning about the incredible advocacy work done by CASA organizations across the country. While I have seen and heard the stories of youth in my community, my own experience is more personal. When I was five years old, I met my younger sister for the first time – she was four years old and we picked her up from her foster home for a visit before her adoption was finalized. I don’t know all of the emotions my sister felt at that time in her life. I do, however, know that a stable and consistent advocate would have helped her at a fragile and vulnerable time. I am running with Team CASA to highlight the critical work being done to support children who deserve the best possible path forward in life.
