Bank of America CHICAGO MARATHON

Helena Orrego

I chose to run for CASA in the 2025 Chicago Marathon because their mission resonates deeply with my personal journey and professional aspirations. As someone who didn’t feel protected or advocated for as a child, I understand the profound impact of feeling unseen and unheard. Although I wasn’t in the foster care system, my experiences have instilled a lifelong commitment to children’s rights and advocacy. Running for CASA allows me to support children in foster care so they feel validated, cared for, and less alone, while also raising awareness about the incredible work CASA does to uplift vulnerable youth. After my father passed away this summer—a complex relationship marked by intergenerational trauma—running became my outlet for coping with pain and stress as I navigate law school and life. Running for a cause like CASA transforms that personal healing into meaningful action, helping children access resources they need to turn challenging beginnings into stories of resilience and strength. This journey is not only about running a marathon but about championing a cause that reminds every child of their innate worth and potential.
