The children served by CASA of Cook County reflect the overall population of children who are involved with the Child Protection system. While CASA does not specifically target minority populations, more than 80% of the children served are minorities. Of the children served by CASA volunteers in 2018, 70% were African American, 17% Hispanic/Latino, 9% percent multi-racial, and 4% percent Caucasian. The vast majority of the children come from families whose incomes are below poverty level. The children range in age from birth to 21 years of age: 25 percent were zero to five years old, 44 percent were six to 11 years old, 19 percent were 12 to 15 years old, and 12 percent were 16 to 21 years old. The gender make-up of the children was 54 percent male and 46 percent female.
